Wayns, 22, did not appear in a game for the Clippers this season after missing the first 33 games of the season due to a torn left meniscus. His contract would have been guaranteed if he were on the roster past Tuesday.
Clippers coach Doc Rivers said Saturday that the Clippers would be looking at point guard options with Chris Paul potentially sidelined 3-5 weeks with a separated right shoulder and Wayns at the time was still a question mark.
“There are a few guys who could get out of their contracts in China,” Rivers said. “So you’re looking at all that stuff.”
The Clippers' roster currently sits at 14, allowing the team to add another player.
Wayns appeared in six games with the Clippers last season and averaged 3.3 points and 1.2 assists. Overall, Wayns has played in 27 career NBA games with the Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers.
