Juan Uribe and A.J. Ellis nearing returns

6/9/2014

CINCINNATI -- Carl Crawford experienced a small setback in his rehab from a sprained left ankle, but two other Los Angeles Dodgers regulars are making steady progress.

Catcher A.J. Ellis (ankle) and Juan Uribe (hamstring) could be playing in games within the next few days.

Ellis could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Thursday, according to Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. Uribe said he thinks he could be playing in minor league games “in a couple days.”

Ellis tested his ankle by making throws to second base before Monday’s game, while Uribe ran short sprints in the outfield grass.

“It’s a lot better now,” Uribe said. “I didn’t feel it at all today.”

Ellis sprained his right ankle when he landed on Drew Butera’s catcher’s mask while celebrating Josh Beckett’s no-hitter on May 25.

Uribe has missed the past 18 games since straining his right hamstring.
