Another perspective on Trout-Kershaw

LOS ANGELES -- Tuesday night's game between the Dodgers and Angels probably won't be decided because of what happens when Clayton Kershaw faces Mike Trout. There are, after all, 16 other people starting in the game and each team tends to use reserves and relief pitchers nightly.

But because the two young superstars have never faced each other in the regular season it has become the story line.

I reached out to one respective veteran scout who knows both players well for his take on how things might go: "Really small sample size, but pitching to Mike is different than any other right-handed hitter. He hammers the low pitch out in center or right-center. Watch the Chris Sale home run. That's a joke. Chris Sale is a great left-handed pitcher, but he's not Kershaw."

Don't be surprised if Kershaw works Trout with high fastballs. Trout hit a low changeup from Sale for a yying grand slam in a game earlier this season.

Also, there's this nugget from ESPN Stats and Information: Since June 1, Kershaw is 10-0 with an 0.94 ERA, a 0.66 WHIP and .165 opponents batting average. The rest of the Dodgers' rotation is 16-19 with a 3.96 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and .225 opponents' BA.
