Both Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke have won Cy Young awards, but Kershaw has a trophy Greinke has always coveted: a Gold Glove.
The Dodgers have two of the most athletic pitchers in the league and Greinke said he would like to one day be recognized for his fielding ability. Kershaw won the 2011 Gold Glove.
"I've got the most second-place awards in history," Greinke said. "I've been following [Mark] Buehrle around everywhere, so it's pretty hard to get around him."
The path may finally be clear, with Buehrle now in the American League with the Toronto Blue Jays. Greinke gave up five hits and two runs in three innings against the San Diego Padres Friday, not his sharpest spring outing, but he did look nimble starting an inning-ending double play.
Greinke said his pitches seemed to be working correctly in his second spring start.
"The hits I gave up were on fastballs that were strikes. They should hit those," Greinke said. "If they were just crushing stuff no one should be hitting, I'd be a little more worried."
Matt Kemp admits there have been moments when he felt pain in his surgically repaired left shoulder this spring, but nothing he couldn't get past. Kemp took another step in his rehabilitation with two at-bats at designated hitter Friday.
He bounced out to third and took a called third strike. He also fouled off a tough changeup from Freddy Garcia and took that as good news.
"Last year, that would have left my shoulder hurting a little bit and it didn't hurt, so that was a really, really good sign," Kemp said. "I did have surgery. It's not going to be all the way right for a while. I've just got to figure out a way, when it does get sore, to go out and play.
