If you read nothing else Dodgers-related today (and, at Dodgers Report, we're certainly not encouraging that), carve out about five minutes to read Vin Scully's wonderful Ode to Summer in Los Angeles Magazine's City Think blog.

It's as good as it gets. In 631 delightful words, we get a little of everything. We get some biographical details about Vin's upbringing in New York and about his life on the West side of Los Angeles. We get a beautifully written description of the baseball season, the way it spans three seasons, by Bart Giamatti.

Mostly, we get a reminder that, even when you walk outside your house into what feels like a blast furnace, there are some pretty cool things about summer in L.A.
