Dodgers open spring training against Arizona
By Mark Saxon
Maybe the Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks can take care of whatever hostility remains from last year’s hot-bloodedness in spring training. We won’t have to wait long to see if they do.
The Dodgers announced their 2014 spring training schedule and they open with two games against the Diamondbacks, Feb. 26 at the Diamondbacks’ facility in Scottsdale and the following day at the Dodgers stadium in Glendale. The teams open the Major League Baseball regular season by playing two games in Sydney, Australia on March 22 and 23.
The Dodgers and Diamondbacks brawled wildly on June 12 after Yasiel Puig and Zack Greinke were hit by pitches at Dodger Stadium. Some members of the Diamondbacks, as well as Arizona Senator John McCain, took exception to the Dodgers celebrating their NL West clinching victory in the Diamondbacks’ center field pool at Chase Field two months later.
The Dodgers’ first spring game with the Angels is scheduled for March 6 in Tempe; their first game against the San Francisco Giants for March 9 in Glendale. The Dodgers play an exhibition game vs. Team Australia on March 21 and, after the two regular-season games, return for the Freeway Series with the Angels March 27-29.
The Dodgers play 24 Cactus League games, 13 of them at Camelback Ranch. You can view the schedule here.
