Dodgers non-tender Belisario
By Mark Saxon
The Los Angeles Dodgers did not tender a contract to reliever Ronald Belisario on Monday, making the four-year veteran a free agent.
Belisario, who will turn 31 on Dec. 31, was 5-7 with a 3.97 ERA last season and was eligible for arbitration in 2014. He made $1.45 million last season. In four seasons with the Dodgers, Belisario was 20-12 with a 3.29 ERA in 273 games. The sinkerballer was, at times, the team’s primary right-handed setup man.
Belisario’s finest season was as a rookie in 2009. He struggled in 2010 and missed the entire 2011 season when he could not obtain a visa to leave his native Venezuela. The move leaves the Dodgers with just four experienced relievers who were healthy enough to pitch last season and likely puts them squarely in the market for relief help, either through free agency or trade.
