Ducks: This would really be a stomp in the back

ANAHEIM--Now the Ducks might have some explaining to do.

In the closing minutes of Anaheim's 5-3 victory Friday night against the Nashville Predators in Game 2 of the Western Conference quarterfinal, Ducks winger Bobby Ryan and Nashville rookie defenseman Jonathon Blum were battling for the puck behind the Predators goal.

In an apparent attempt to jostle the puck loose as Blum kept it pinned against the wall with his skate, Ryan stomped on his laces and freed the puck.

No penalty was called and Blum did not appear to be injured. Ryan, who was second on the team with 34 goals during the regular season, scored his second goal of the game about two minutes later, an empty netter, to seal the victory and tie the series, 1-1, heading into Game 3 on Sunday in Nashville.

The incident was never brought up during post-game interviews.

However, this video clearly shows Ryan stomping on Blum's skate, which may earn Ryan a call from league officials.

Sound familiar?

The Kings learned Friday they would be without second-line center Jarret Stoll for Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series Saturday night in San Jose. Stoll checked Sharks defenseman Ian White into the boards late in the first period, putting White out for the remainder of the game. Stoll did not receive a penalty on the play but was handed a one-game suspension by the NHL.

In the same game, Sharks defenseman Jason Demers left his feet to lay a hard check on Kings left wing Ryan Smyth in the neutral zone, knocking Smyth on his back. Smyth was not injured and Demers did not receive a penalty or further disciplinary action, infuriating Kings coach Terry Murray.

This won't be the first stomp to create noise in Anaheim. Chris Pronger was suspended for eight games during the 2008 regular season for stomping on leg of Vancouver forward Ryan Kesler.

The Ducks are leaving for Nashville on Saturday morning.
