Kings need to settle down. Canucks swarming and cycling early. Lots of activity down low and Jonathan Quick has had to be sharp.
Just over five minutes in now and Vancouver is clearly dominating play and they're continuing to do it down low.
But what a great chance by the Kings: Alexander Frolov breaks in a whips a pretty backhand pass to Dustin Brown and he rips it. Roberto Luongo flashes out the left pad to make a really good save.
First power play goes to the Kings at the 6:37 mark. Kings nine of 16 on the power play and the Canucks PK is the worst. But just eight seconds into the PP, Ryan Smyth gets called for goalie interference. PP negated for LA.
Drew Doughty taking some extra hits and chirping by the Canucks so far, undoubtedly thanks to his nomination earlier today for the Norris Trophy.
Canucks get the first goal on a broken play: Pavol Demitra behind the net to Kyle Wellwood busting in and he shoots wide but the bounce off the boards goes right to Steve Bernier, who bangs it in.
Canucks draw first blood, but this is not necessarily bad news for the Kings: In all of the preceding four games, the team that has scored first has gone on to lose the game.
Luongo gets barely brushed by Justin Williams and reacts as if he has been hit by an elephant gun. Nice try, Roberto.
Kings getting some shots on Luongo, but the problem he's seeing everything. The Kings need to generate more traffic in front of him.
Maybe they can do that on their second power play opportunity, with 7:18 to go in the first period.
And they get one: Off the faceoff, Michal Handzus picks up a loose puck, circles around the net and bangs it in off the stick of Canucks defenseman Christian Ehrhoff. Ugly, but hey, that's a gorgeous playoff goal: Get it to the next any way you can and something good might happen. It's 1-1.
Ouch. Just 2:28 to go and with the first line in their own end, Alexander Edler fires from a bad angle to the right of Jonathan Quick, who's screened as he allows a bouncing puck to squeeze by him on the short side. 2-1 Canucks.
And then when Brad Richardson pulls down Mason Raymond behind the net, the Canucks get a PP with just over 2:08 left in the period.
Demitra hits the post with a minute to go. Tremendous pressure by the Canucks with the Sedins on the ice. Quick with a great left toe save and then he dives out to cover up.
Huge pileup with just five seconds left in the period. Canucks piling into the crease. Quick falls back to cover it up and everyone piles on.
Period ends and the Kings are extremely fortunate to get out of it down just 2-1.
More coming after the second.
