Kings Looking Good Early: 1-0 After One

4/25/2010

Kings look really good in the early going. Puck is in the Vancouver end and the cycle game is operating very effectively.

Just over three minutes in, Dustin Brown gets a hooking penalty. First PP of the game to the Canucks.

No shots for Canucks, good PK by LA.

At 6:11, another PP for Vancouver, Anze Kopitar guilty of hooking on an aggressive backcheck.

And a great hustle play by Brown in the Canucks end draws an interference penalty on the Canucks. 4 on 4 for 30 seconds and then the Kings will go on the PP for 1:30.

Kings 10 of 21 on the PP, still the best in the playoffs. Canucks PK is the worst.

PP expires but just seconds after, what a goal by Alexander Frolov! Curling around the net at the 10:08 mark, protecting the puck beautifully from the pursuing Henrik Sedin and he wraps it off Roberto Luongo's stick and into the net. 1-0 Kings and they're dominating the action so far, outshooting the Canucks 9-3 and the goal by Frolov is a good sign. The Kings are going to need more goals from second and third line players like Frolov is they're going to win this game.

5:40 to go and another PP for the Kings: Mikael Samuelsson gets called for goaltender interference.

Dangerous shot by Jack Johnson gets through and Luongo makes a nice stop. But that's the sole threat. Canucks kill it off.

Then Jonathan Quick does a good job of stopping and absorbing a tester from Samuelsson, just out of the box. Quick looking confident, playing on top of the crease, the early "body language" that is so important looks good.

Nice try by Wayne Simmonds, great speed down the right side and he gets a bad-angle shot off that Luongo stops.

This is all good, though, the Kings are taking it to the Canucks and Luongo has had to be very sharp.

1:00 to go. And the Kings just get their 15th shot of the period on Luongo, a snapper from Kopitar after a neutral zone turnover. He handles it easily.

And with just 10 seconds to go, Rob Scuderi tests Luongo with another shot from the point. That's it. Period over.

More coming after the second.
