Kings: Bernier falters in 3-1 loss at Chicago

The Kings might want to think about giving Jonathan Quick less time off.

Quick was on the bench Wednesday night in the first of back-to-back road games and he must have been wincing as back-up Jonathan Bernier gave up two bad goals in a 3-1 loss at Chicago.

Bernier falls to 1-2 on the season, while the Kings are 6-3-0 heading into their game Thursday at Dallas.

Bernier couldn’t control a slap shot by Duncan Keith in the opening minutes of the second period and the puck fell at his feet, where Viktor Stalberg backhanded it into the net to break a 1-1 tie.

In his last start against Carolina, Bernier gave up a similar goal when a slap shot fell out of his glove and was poked in by Jeff Skinner but the offense managed to save him in the 4-3 victory.

Not so against the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks, as they put the game away in the closing minutes of the game when Bernier got beat by Patrick Sharp for his ninth goal of the season.

Quick will be back in goal against the Stars, bringing with him a 5-1 record this season.
