Just got the official word today. Pau Gasol --whose calender year has included an NBA title, All-NBA third team honors, a European Championship (complete with MVP honors), the "soft" tag shed, and a contract extension hammered out to keep him in a Laker uni through the 2013-2014 season-- was tabbed for recognition by the LASC, founded in 1988 with the goal of bringing major sports events (and the accompanying economic boost) to Los Angeles. In 2005, they created the Sports Awards to celebrate the year's biggest athletic achievements. Fans can take part in the proceedings by logging onto the LASC site, registering, selecting their favorite moments in professional, college and high school sports.

Congrats to El Spaniard on a well deserved honor, one Jerry West could have likely seen coming.
