DENVER -- In the final seconds of the Los Angeles Lakers' 117-107 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, Lakers star Kobe Bryant took off his sneakers and began autographing them for fans sitting nearby.

“They earned them,” Bryant said after playing his final game in Denver. “The young ladies that were sitting in front of them did, too. We had a little contest going on. They wanted to know what the name of our pet dog was. I just gave them a clue. I said it’s in a [Harry] Potter film. So every timeout, they’d throw out 15 names. The deal was, if they got it, I’d give them my shoes. So they got it. They got it.”

Bryant, who is retiring this summer after his 20th NBA season, later said that his dog’s name was “Crucio.”

Bryant played just 11 minutes in the game before leaving with a sore right shoulder, the same injury that has bothered him virtually all season. He finished with five points.
