There was no reason to think it wouldn't go well, but the news is still good to hear: Andrew Bynum underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a tear of the lateral meniscus in his right knee Wednesday in New York, and the results were deemed a success. Bynum's brother Corey spoke to Brad Turner of the L.A. Times, and said there were "no surprises." (The surgical equivalent of lady jumping out of a giant cake, if you will.)

Bynum will rehab for about six to eight weeks. In a statement, the Lakers said Bynum is expected to be available "on a limited basis at the start of training camp," which kicks off earlier than normal this season (Sept. 25) thanks to the team's preseason trip to England and Spain. Still, the team believes he'll be good to go for the start of the regular season.

Obviously when it comes to Bynum, health, and rehab, there's no such thing as a guarantee. I choose this summer to think optimistically. In the meantime, prepare yourself for a healthy dose of early (pre) season burn for Theo Ratliff!
