Mike Brown to coach the Lakers

By Andy Kamenetzky

Yesterday's speculation has become today's hard news.

According to Chris Broussard, the Lakers and Mike Brown have agreed in principle to a deal making him the team's next coach. According to Broussard, the announcement could come today, with the contract officially inked next week. Brown's services will be worth $18.25 million in total -- a little over $4.5 million annually -- and he'll be on board for three seasons, with a team option for a fourth year. (If the option isn't picked up, Brown will make $2.5 million.)

Brian shared his immediate reaction to the developing story yesterday, and we'll obviously have much more analysis as the days continue. But for the time being, we wanted to keep everyone in the loop as a major chapter in a storied franchise unfolds.
