Kobe Bryant beats up Kyrie Irving with trash talk

By Brian Kamenetzky

Some funny stuff out of Team USA's training camp in the video below, where we learn definitively whether sticks and stones break bones, but names (or trash talk) can never hurt.

Reigning Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving, running with the USA's Select Team (basically younger players being groomed for the national team) challenged Kobe Bryant to a game of 1-on-1. From there, with his silver tongue Kobe basically eviscerates the kid, making it very clear how successful he believes Irving would be in this endeavor.

My two favorite moments: First, when Kobe says even Irving's own dad would say it's a bad idea. "Get your dad on the phone right now," he says. "Be like, 'Pops, I'm trying to bet Kob 50 grand I can beat him one-on-one.' He'll be like, 'Son, are you crazy? Are you crazy?' "

Second, when Kobe mocks Irving's college career, calling him a high-schooler.

Irving counters by noting he went to Duke for a year.

"You played two games in college," Bryant fires back (though technically, it was 11). "You played two games. You are a high school kid."

For the record, I'll take Kobe in a walk. Irving might be able to beat him periodically with quicks, but Kobe's strength and length would win the day. There's no way Irving could keep him off his spots when Bryant had the ball, or defend all the stuff he'd pull out of the bag once he got there.
