ESPNLA's Dave McMenamin has the news:
"Despite being listed on one of the rosters for the Impact Basketball Academy's "Competitive Training Series" that is set to begin Monday in Las Vegas, [Derek] Fisher will not be able to participate because of his responsibilities as NBPA president, according to a source close to the 37-year old guard.

The source said the 16-year veteran supports the efforts of longtime NBA trainer Joe Abunassar in organizing the camp and allowed for the "remote possibility" of Fisher making an appearance sometime during its 12-day run but emphasized that Fisher has no plans to arrive in Las Vegas with the purpose of playing in Thursday's games as Impact's website reports."

Fisher will travel to Vegas to brief the large group of NBA players participating in the two-week league on the progress of CBA talks, but a source close to him says Fisher won't be suiting up, because he doesn't know where he might next be (business) suiting up. To say the least, his schedule these days is fluid. It's presumptuous to read Fish's de-commitment -- assuming he'd ever committed to begin with -- as a sign the players and owners are getting closer, particularly after all of last week's optimism. Could be, I certainly hope so, but not necessarily.

Clearly, though, it beats the alternative. Excess spare time for Fisher likely means the two sides are so far apart, it's not even worth talking.
