Van Nuys quarterback Iheanyi Obinna was given a fifth year of eligibility to play high school football and he is making the most of his opportunity.
He was granted a hardship waiver and has the Van Nuys football team poised to make the playoffs for the first time since 1998.
Obinna grew up in an abusive home and bounced around between family members through his junior high and high school years, according to a story in the Daily News.
He has done more than play quarterback for Van Nuys. He has seen time as a receiver, defensive back and kick returner. He is also succeeding in the classroom.
