Loyola clutch late to remain perfect

Nationally-ranked Loyola eked out a 65-62 win against Bellarmine Prep of Tacoma, Wash. in the opener of the fourth annual Father George National Jesuit Christmas Classic boys' basketball tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cubs improved to 9-0 behind 20 points from Jacob Hazzard and 19 from Julian Harrell. Harrell sank two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to put the Cubs up three. Bellarmine missed a long-range shot on its next possession, and Loyola advanced to the next round.

The tournament is behind held in North Bethesda, Md., about 15 miles north of downtown Washington D.C. Loyola, the No. 18 team in the POWERADE FAB 50 national rankings, will take on Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit in the semifinal on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. PT.
