Granite Hills High School of Apple Valley, one of the true perennials in Southern California prep girls soccer, was knocked out of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs Wednesday.

How shocking is that? The top-seeded Cougars had reached the semifinals the past eight seasons, winning a share of the 2006 Division V title and reaching the Divisions IV/4 championship games in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Shavonn Johnson scored from Lauren Calderaro's feed with four minutes to play to lift Bonita, from La Verne, to a 3-2 triumph in the Division 3 second-round clash.

Calderaro scored in the 11th minute and Savannah Garcia in the 16th to give the Bearcats (15-8-2) a two-goal advantage, but Granite Hills (19-4-1) rallied on second-half goals by Michelle Alozie and, a minute before Johnson's winner, Megan Morgenstern.

“Naturally, I’m shocked. Certainly shocked,” Cougars coach Mike Bradbury told the High Desert Daily Press. “This game, as many games are, is a game of momentum. ... I’ve learned over the years that you’ve got to have a little four-leaf clover at times.”

Bonita coach Lynsee Bock, whose team will play at Chino Hills in Friday's quarterfinals, told the newspaper she was unaware Granite Hills was ranked No. 1 nor possesed its pedigree.

“It's the same approach for every game,” she said. “It doesn't matter who we're playing. We do everything the same, and out focus is the same. ... To me, it was just another game.”

Three other seeds went out in the Southern Section -- No. 3 Buena (Ventura) and No. 4 Peninsula (Rolling Hills Estates) in Division 2 and No. 3 Arlington (Riverside) in Division 4 -- and four top-four seeds lost in the Los Angeles City Section quarterfinals: No. 3 San Pedro in top-tier Divisional, and No. 2 Fremont (Los Angeles), No. 3 Belmont (Los Angeles) and No. 4 Narbonne (Gardena) in Invitational.

Here are the City girls semifinal matchups, to be played Tuesday at 3 p.m.:
