SANTA ANA -- As fast or as slow as point guard Bridgette Adams goes, Rolling Hills Prep coach Joe Jackson likes to say, his Huskies will follow.

Well, Adams went pretty fast Saturday, and Rolling Hills Prep followed.

The lightning-quick 5-foot-1 sophomore had 15 points and a game-high five assists for Rolling Hills in Saturday's CIF-SS Division 5A championship game against Avalon High, leading the Huskies to a blowout 65-32 win over the Lancers at Mater Dei High.

"She took us where we needed to go," Jackson said of Adams, who played the entire game.

Rolling Hills, playing a fierce 2-2-1 press for much of the game, led 17-10 after one period and 36-17 at the half, and Avalon scored only 15 total points in the second half as the outcome was never in doubt.

The Huskies had rolled through opponents in the CIF-SS Division 5-A playoffs by an average of almost 32 points per game, and they repeated their efforts on Saturday with the 33-point win. 6-foot sophomore Peyton Langston led all scorers with 25 points and added a game-high 10 rebounds, and junior Mar-Jana Phillips had 14 points and two blocks.

Avalon was led by senior guard Elizabeth Chavoya, who had 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting but struggled from the free-throw line, shooting just 3-of-11 from the stripe. Guard Tori Hoefs added six points and four other players had at least four.

Adams, who had a game-high six steals said the key to Rolling Hills' success is "pushing the ball all the time," and Jackson agreed, even though he said he wished Adams would have pushed it even more on Saturday.

He credited the opposing Lancers for testing his team's speed and putting his players "into some situations that I never want to see again."

"The thing is, we didn't even really get out of third gear," he said. "We just did not. But our tempo wasn't quite what they were used to."

Rolling Hills (18-4) won its second-straight division title, although the Huskies played in Division 6A a season ago.
