Campbell Hall pitcher needs transplant

The high school baseball season has just started, but Campbell Hall pitcher Chad Eaton is preparing for the last game of his prep career.

He will start against Glendale Hoover on Saturday. He will have kidney transplant surgery on Tuesday. Eaton told the L.A. Times he plans to spend as much time as he can with his teammates and enjoy what's left of his high school baseball career before he has surgery.

His aunt, Susan Launer, is donating one of her kidneys to Eaton, a promise she made to her nephew when he was 4.

The surgery will take from five to eight hours. His doctors anticipate his recovery time will be six to eight weeks, which is right around the same time the high school baseball season ends.

But his baseball career still has hope. If he recovers, he can continue playing baseball in college. He will be attending Wake Forest University in North Carolina in the fall.
