This week the top eight teams in the ESPNLA.com Top 25 Prep Football rankings won, though there figures to be plenty of shifting with teams in the bottom half.

Here is a brief review of how teams in our top 25 fared over the weekend:
  • Seven teams in the top 25 lost: No. 9 Orange Lutheran (46-29 to Tustin); No. 14 Chaparral (27-12 to Fresno Edison); No. 15 La Habra (23-0 to No. 1 Servite); No. 16 St. Bonaventure (33-32 to No. 24 Oaks Christian in OT); No. 21 Loyola (35-28 to Newport Harbor); No. 22 Carson (56-14 to Santa Margarita); and No. 25 Dana Hills (27-21 to Huntington Beach Edison).
  • Most impressive victory: Probably have to go with Centennial's 44-13 dismantling of Mater Dei. Sure, the Monarchs aren't ranked, but they still have two USC-bound players in quarterback Max Wittek and wide receiver Victor Blackwell.
  • Honorable mention: Oaks Christian's come-from-behind 33-32 overtime win over St. Bonaventure. The Lions trailed 19-0 in the third quarter and backup QB Richie Harrington rallied them in their Marmonte League opener.
  • New best 0-2 team in the state? Last week it was Crenshaw, though the No. 18 Cougars got into the win column with a 46-0 win over Wilmington Banning. The latest 0-2 powerhouse is No. 14 Chaparral, which lost to Fresno Edison, 27-12, after losing its opener to Oceanside. Perhaps Southern Section competition will be kinder to the Pumas.
  • City blues: No. 22 Carson's 56-14 loss to unranked Santa Margarita deflated what was a good start to the season by the Colts. Another City team, Narbonne, had a chance to make a statement but fell short in a 23-20 loss to No. 17 Long Beach Poly.
  • By a thread: In addition to Carson, other teams in danger of slipping out of the rankings include No. 21 Loyola, which fell to 1-2 and Dana Hills, which lost its first game after making its intial appearance in the rankings. No. 23 Moorpark, which lost its season opener two weekends previous, barely beat Newbury Park, 31-30.
  • More I.E. love: In addition to Centennial's win, No. 6 Vista Murrieta beat Corona Santiago, 21-17, No. 11 Norco knocked off Etiwanda, 49-35, and No. 20 Riverside Arlington beat Riverside Poly, 29-20.
  • Rolling along: No. 3 Mission Viejo continued to look unbeatable (at least on offense) in a 56-34 win over Corona as the Diablos improved to 3-0. Other 3-0 teams in the top 25 include No. 4 Lakewood, which beat Mayfair, 24-14; No. 5 Serra, which beat Mira Costa, 35-13; No. 8 Los Alamitos, which beat West Adams, 35-8; No. 10 Bishop Amat, which beat Muir, 34-14; No. 13 Alemany, which beat Palmdale Knight, 42-14; and No. 19 Dorsey, which beat L.A. Hamilton, 34-7.
  • Two for two: No. 2 Westlake, which beat Thousand Oaks, 31-3, in its Marmonte League opener, and No. 12 Valencia, which routed Birmingham, 47-6, each improved to 2-0.
  • Top dog: No. 1 Servite used its defense again to improve to 3-0 after a 23-0 domination of No. 15 La Habra.
