The Woodland Hills Taft boys' basketball team earned the No. 1 seed in the CIF City Section Division I playoffs.
Before the brackets were released on Saturday, Taft coach Derrick Taylor said he put together a mock tournament. He picked the top seed, third seed, 11th seed and 16th seed correctly.
“I had all the right teams, but the wrong order,” Taylor said. “I didn’t see any surprises.”
Taft will play Hollywood, the first-place team from the Central League, in the first round. Hollywood (11-5) ended the regular season with a four-game winning streak. Its only loss in league came against Bernstein, 62-55, on Jan. 26.
Taft (22-2) has won 13 games in a row and completed a perfect 10-0 season in the West Valley League.
Taylor said his team is “pretty healthy.” Senior center Kevin Young, who leads the team in rebounding at 10.6 per game, has tendinitis in his knees. But he is the only player Taylor said is nursing any kind of significant injury.
Westchester (23-6) earned the No. 2 seed in the Division I playoffs and will play Gardena (5-18) in the first round.
Washington (20-6) is the third seed and plays Locke (11-15) in the first round. No. 4 Crenshaw (18-8) takes on Jordan (7-12) in the first round.
All first-round games are scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. The CIF City Section Division I championship game is set for March 5 at the Galen Center.
