Orange County: Boras selected, Round 27 is big locally

Through the second day of the Major League Baseball draft, one might say that Orange County owned the 27th round.

Five players who attend high school or college in OC were selected, including UC Irvine third baseman Brian Hernandez who was chosen by the Angels.

There was a big gap between Round 10 and Round 17 for local products, but right fielder Dutch Deol of Aliso Niguel was finally chosen by St. Louis.

Notably, Trent Boras, a teammate of catcher Austin Hedgesselected earlier in the day, in the second round—and son of super-agent Scott Boras was chosen by Milwaukee. The third baseman, who has signed with USC, was tabbed 911th overall.

The draft began Monday with OC's Henry Owens being chosen in the first round, and concludes Wednesday. Here's a look at the second half of the draft's second day, Rounds 17 through 30:
