LA North: Alemany's Nia Britt sets AAU national shot put record

Nia Britt, who will be a freshman at Alemany High School in Mission Hills, set the AAU national record in the shot put and will be featured in next week's issue of Sports Illustrated in the Faces in the Crowd section.

Britt was the gold medalist in the 13-14 age group at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics in Wichita, Kan., over the summer. She broke the AAU national record for her age group in the shot put a week later in New Orleans.

Her put of 50' 5'' in the preliminary round broke the AAU national record. She broke her own mark in the final round with a put of 51' 61/4''.
