Football: Roger Jones lands at Carson

Former Compton running back Roger Jones has transferred to Carson, Colts coach Elijah Asante confirmed Thursday after Jones' paperwork was approved by the CIF City Section.

Jones, an All-Moore League selection as a sophomore last season, had been conditioning with the Colts as he went through the transfer process. Asante said Jones is all set for No. 9-ranked Carson's opener Friday night against No. 12 Mater Dei.

"This dude is vicious," Asante said. "This guy is a franchise player. He's a difference-maker. ... This kid puts us in another place. With this kid, it legitimately raises the question: How the heck are you going to stop us?"

Jones joins another newcomer in the backfield. Former South Torrance quarterback Kevin McMahon transferred to Carson in the summer, giving the Colts a formidable replacement for All-City selection Justin Alo.
