Chaminade, Canyon win basketball tournaments

The Chaminade boys basketball team won its own tournament. The Canyon boys basketball team beat Ventura at the Ventura tournament.

Alemany is in the championship game of the Modesto Christian tournament. Crespi lost in the semifinals of the Redondo Sea Hawk Beach Classic.

Here’s a look at the games from Thursday night and some of the tournament games being played tonight:

Chaminade 57, Eastside Catholic 50: Jaron Martin scored 21 points and was 10-for-11 from the free-throw line in the championship game of the Chaminade Christmas Classic. He was selected as tournament MVP. Jack Williams, the 6-feet-8 super sophomore for Chaminade (10-3), scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds.

Canyon 53, Ventura 50: Coley Apsay scored 31 points and hit seven 3-pointers for Canyon (14-1) in the championship game of the Ventura tournament. He earned tournament MVP. Teammate Alek Golden was selected to the all-tournament team. Clay Kasdorf scored 11 points against Ventura in the championship game.

Westlake 78, Sierra Vista of Nevada 32 (OT): Josh Brooks scored 22 points and in the championship game in the Silver Division of the Las Vegas Champions tournament. He was the tournament MVP. Larry Bush had 15 points for Westlake (13-4).

Alemany 65, Modesto Christian 46: Marqueze Coleman recorded a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds in the semifinals of the Modesto Christian tournament. Point guard Max Guercy scored 17 points and had nine assists for Alemany (10-2). Alemany will play Bakersfield in the championship game.

Los Angeles Washington 68, Crespi 58: London Perrantes and Justin Rubia each scored 18 points for Crespi (12-1), which lost for the first time this season. Washington will play Bishop Montgomery in the championship game of the Redondo Sea Hawk Beach Classic.

Viewpoint 67, Sierra Pacific 27: Johnny Paul led Viewpoint with 15 points in the semifinals of the California Division at the Cathedral City Tournament. Viewpoint will play Ponderosa in the championship game.

Sierra Canyon 61, Santa Margarita 47: Jahmel Taylor scored 31 points and had seven assists in the semifinals of the Mayor’s Division at the Torrey Pines tournament. Sierra Canyon (10-4) will play Murrieta Valley in the championship game.

Royal 62, Edison of Fresno 47: Scott Woods led three players from Royal in double figures in the semifinals of the Clovis Elks Tournament. Woods scored 14 points and had nine rebounds. Royal (9-4) plays Hoover of San Diego in the championship game.

Grant 76, Glendale 59: Gor Plavchyan scored 29 points for Grant (10-3) in the semifinals of the Hart tournament.

Finally, Etiwanda will face Oaks Christian in the championship game of the Oaks Christian tournament tonight. Etiwanda beat Santa Monica, 56-52, in the semifinals. Oaks Christian beat Cleveland of Reseda, 56-50, in the other semifinal.
