LA North: Winners and losers from the SoCal Regionals

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONAL BASKETBALL
Second round, Thursday
Mater Dei 72, Loyola 70: Seconds after hitting a 3-pointer to pull Loyola within one point, freshman point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have given his team the win. Joe Stein made four 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Loyola.
Taft 65, Carlsbad La Costa Canyon 43: CJ Blackwell scored 20 points and had 17 rebounds in Taft’s win over La Costa Canyon. Taft owned the boards in this game. The Toreadors outrebounded La Costa Canyon 53-22. Blackwell pulled down eight offensive rebounds. Stephen Maxwell grabbed 11 rebounds for Taft.
Summit 66, Ventura 45: Ventura saw its magical season come to an end. Summit hit 10 3-pointers and eliminated the second-seeded Cougars from the Southern California Regional. Ventura also saw its 12-game home winning streak snapped. Dylan Houck scored a team-high 13 points for Ventura in the loss.
La Canada 43, Crespi 42: Another day, another nail-biter in the CIF playoffs for the La Canada boys. Matt Faber scored 13 points and had 16 rebounds as top-seeded La Canada moved into the Southern California Regional semifinals.
Harvard-Westlake 77, Chatsworth 59: Harvard-Westlake’s Damiene Cain gave Chatsworth a rude awakening to its dream season. Cain scored 26 points and had nine rebounds. Chatsworth won its first City Section championship in school history on Saturday and followed with its first CIF State playoff win Tuesday. Harvard-Westlake took the next step en route to its third CIF state championship.
Oaks Christian 74, Los Angeles CES 37: Dillon van der Wal scored 15 points and Chass Bryan scored 12 and had five assists for Oaks Christian.
Windward 76, Buckley 55: Nick de Bonfilhs scored 19 points for Buckley in the loss.
Sierra Canyon 83, Fresno Christian 35: Jahmel Taylor scored a team-high 20 points for Sierra Canyon.
Montclair Prep 65, San Diego Horizon 53: Trey Dickerson scored a game-high 26 points for Montclair Prep.
St. Bernard 68, Flintridge Prep 54: Kenyatta Smith scored 19 points for Flintridge Prep in the loss.

Second round, Thursday
Rialto 46, Canyon Country Canyon 44: Jojo DeLong scored 12 points hitting four 3-pointers for Canyon in the loss. Alia McCoy led Canyon with 13 points.
Harvard-Westlake 61, Inglewood 52: The Wolverines hit 10 3-pointers, including five in the fourth quarter, to advance to the semifinals of the Southern California Regional. Natalie Florescu scored 21 points and Skylar Tsutsui scored 18. The two hit four of the five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Buena 63, Palisades 58 (OT): Senior Keani Albanez scored seven points in overime to carry Buena into the semifinals of the Southern California Regional. She scored 29 points in the game.
Serra 72, Chaminade 47: Chaminade lost to Serra for the second time this season. Annie Tarakchian scored 22 points and had 14 rebounds in the loss for Chaminade.
Bonita 67, Bell-Jeff 52: Bonita went on a 23-4 run in the second half to knock out Bell-Jeff in the playoffs.
Santa Maria St. Joseph 65, Monroe 38
Windward 72, Oaks Christian 37
Santa Clara 68, Mesa Grande Academy 31: Keiana Vines scored 25 points and Oxnard’s Santa Clara snapped Mesa Grande Academy’s 26-game winning streak.
