Los Angeles Preps: A.C. Borden

Esperanza was the only team from Orange County to be tabbed as a top-seeded team in the Southern Section softball playoff pairings that were released on Monday.

For good reason, too. The Aztecs, despite losing their Century League finale to Anaheim Canyon, have been ranked No. 1 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports and No. 4 in the nation by ESPN Rise. They have seven Division I college players in the lineup, including pitcher A.C. Borden (Penn) and first baseman Kelsea Roth (Missouri).

Century League champion Esperanza (22-2) was No. 1 in Division 1, and will be on the same side of the bracket as another county team, fourth-seeded Los Alamitos (24-3-1) from the Sunset League.

The alignment pits teams ranked No. 1 and 9 in the nation on the same side of the bracket while teams ranked 11 and 29 are on the other.
