Harvard-Westlake has hired Scot Ruggles as its new football coach in the extremely competitive Mission League.
Ruggles was an assistant at Havrard-Westlake under Vic Eumont, who resigned in December. Ruggles brought a high-tempo, no-huddle, Oregon-style offense to Harvard-Westlake. The Wolverines averaged 31 points and 350 yards of offense per game last season.
“I look forward to preparing our young men to not only compete, but to succeed in the Mission League,” Ruggles said in a release from the school. “I promise our staff and players will work hard to make Harvard-Westlake extremely proud.”
The Mission League includes Alemany, Crespi, Sherman Oaks Notre and Loyola, some of the top football programs in Southern California. They play in the Pac 5 Division, the top division in Southern Section football.
Ruggles has coached at the high school, college and pro levels. He was an assistant coach at Marshall University and Harvard and with the Colorado Rush of the Arena Football League.
Ruggles is also an actor and has appeared on “Days of Our Lives.” He recently completed a movie called “Division Three” with Andy Dick.
