Los Angeles Preps: Bell

The Chatsworth boys volleyball team opened the City Section Division I playoffs with a three-game sweep over Lincoln to advance to the second round.

Chatsworth will play third-seeded Woodland Hills Taft in the second round on Tuesday.

Second-seeded Granada Hills had a bye in the first round and will play Bell, which eliminated Fairfax in three games.

No. 7 El Camino Real plays 10th-seeded Narbonne in the second round. No. 6 Van Nuys plays Sun Valley Poly in the second round. Poly knocked out Kennedy of Granada Hills in three games in the first round.

Bell, Animo boys wins City titles

CARSON -- The Bell boys' basketball team won the City Section Division 3 championship, 45-39, over Grant at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.

Michael Dees led Bell with 18 points. Gor Plavchyan scored 11 for Grant.

Animo won the City Section Small Schools championship, 49-47, over View Park at Cal State Dominguez Hills. View Park's Sheldon Wright led all scorers with 30 points. William Brown and Kyree Jefferson each scored 15 points to lead Animo.

University won the City Section Division III girls championship, 62-46, over Marshall. Myangel Johnson scored 20 points for University. Sarah Takizawa-MacLean scored 18 for Marshall.

Dantzler won the City Section Small Schools championship, 53-38, over Elizabeth. Dijanai Williams led Dantzler with 21 points. Erica Banuelos scored 18 for Elizabeth.

El Camino Real girls No. 1 seed in City Section soccer playoffs

The El Camino Real soccer teams have nice draws in the CIF City Section playoffs.

The El Camino Real girls have the top seed and open against Bell. El Camino Real (19-2-1) has won 10 City Section championships, one shy of Chatsworth's City Section record of 11.

All six teams from the West Valley League qualified for the City Section playoffs.

The El Camino Real boys are the No. 2 seed in the City Section playoffs and play Hamilton (9-9-3). El Camino Real (18-4-4) won the West Valley League championship with an 8-0-2 record, has won seven games in a row and has a 10-game unbeaten streak.

San Fernando is the No. 3 seed in the City Section playoffs and open against San Pedro.

Football: City Section Div. II seedings

South East, the champion of the Eastern League, earned the No. 1 seeding in the CIF City Section Division II football playoffs. South East (9-1) didn’t exactly end league play on a high note though, losing to Jordan, 49-47, for its only loss.

South East will play Grant of Van Nuys in the first round of playoffs. Grant (4-6) finished in third place in the East Valley League and won its league finale, 22-13, over Poly of Sun Valley. All four of Grant’s win were against East Valley League opponents.

Marshall (8-2) is the No. 2 seed will play Santee in the first round. Marshall won the Northern League championship with a 5-0 record and has won seven games in a row. The last game Marshall lost was to Bonita, 50-22, on Sept. 23.

Santee (5-5) finished in a tie with Belmont for second place in the Southern League. The Falcons won their league finale, 27-13, over Bernstein to finish 4-2 in the Southern League.

Granada Hills (5-5) earned the No. 3 seed in playoffs and will play University in the first round. The Highlanders are the fourth-place team from the West Valley League with only two wins in league play. They have a three-game losing streak heading into playoffs, but only lost by one point, 35-34, to El Camino Real in the West Valley League finale.

Granada Hills opened the season with a 14-7 win over Reseda, the Valley Mission League champs.

University (3-7) didn’t win a game against Western League opponents and finished in last place in league. The Wildcats lost six games in a row to finish the regular season.

Jefferson (9-1) is the No. 4 seed and the Southern League champs. The Democrats went undefeated in the Southern League at 5-0 and finished with two shutouts. They beat Santee, 55-0, and then beat Hollywood, 63-0, in the Southern League finale.

Jefferson’s only loss came against Arleta, 45-7, on Oct. 28. The Democrats will play Bell (4-6), the fourth place team from the Eastern League. Bell finished with two wins in a row, including 14-0 over Roosevelt in the league finale.

All first-round playoff games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Fairfax won the City Section Division II championship last year. The Lions are the No. 14 seed in the City Section Division I playoffs and will play No. 3 seed Dorsey in the first round.

LA North and LA South: CIF City Section boys volleyball playoffs

Top-seeded Granada Hills will face Marshall in the second round of the CIF City Section Division I playoffs on Tuesday. Marshall, the 16th seed in the playoffs, won its first-round match against Roosevelt in a three-game sweep. Granada Hills had a first-round bye.

No. 2 Palisades plays Kennedy of Granada Hills in the second round. No. 15 Kennedy beat Chatsworth in the first round in four games. Palisades had a bye in the first round.

In other second-round matches, No. 9 Van Nuys plays No. 8 Sylmar. No. 5 Birmingham plays No. 12 San Pedro. No. 4 Narbonne plays No. 13 Bell.

Poly of Sun Valley, the No. 3 seed in the playoffs, plays No. 14 El Camino Real. No. 6 Woodland Hills Taft plays No. 11 West Adams. No. 7 Carson plays No. 10 Cleveland of Reseda.
