Los Angeles Preps: Lincoln

The Chatsworth boys volleyball team opened the City Section Division I playoffs with a three-game sweep over Lincoln to advance to the second round.

Chatsworth will play third-seeded Woodland Hills Taft in the second round on Tuesday.

Second-seeded Granada Hills had a bye in the first round and will play Bell, which eliminated Fairfax in three games.

No. 7 El Camino Real plays 10th-seeded Narbonne in the second round. No. 6 Van Nuys plays Sun Valley Poly in the second round. Poly knocked out Kennedy of Granada Hills in three games in the first round.

City boys' volleyball playoffs to begin

The first round of the City Section boys' volleyball playoffs begin tonight. Kennedy from Granada Hills, the No. 22 seed in the Division I playoffs, plays 11th seeded Poly from Sun Valley.

Chatsworth, the 14th-seeded team in the Division I playoffs, opens against No. 19 Lincoln.

Palisades is the No. 1 seed in the Division I playoffs and has a first-round bye. Granada Hills is the No. 2 seed and also has a bye in the first round. The second round of the City Section Division I boys volleyball playoffs starts on Tuesday.

North Hollywood freshman starter Andrew Marmor threw six shutout innings and led his team to a 6-0 win over Lincoln in the City Section Division II semifinal at Birmingham High School.

Marvin Galvez had a two-run double in the first inning. Jonathan Linares added a two-run single in the fifth inning.

North Hollywood will play LA Wilson in the championship game at Dodger Stadium on Saturday at 11 a.m.

It is North Hollywood's first trip to the championship game in 31 years. The last time North Hollywood won a City Section title was in 1957

San Diego Lincoln boys win Division II championship

BAKERSFIELD – The Lincoln boys basketball team beat St. Francis, 74-59, to win the CIF Division II state championship at Rabobank Arena on Friday night.

Norman Powell and Victor Dean each scored 24 points for Lincoln. Tyree Robinson had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Patrick Crowley and Tim Wang each scored a team-high 13 points for St. Francis.

BAKERSFIELD – Lincoln is looking to give Southern California a Friday sweep in the CIF state basketball championships.

Lincoln, which plays in the CIF San Diego Section, has a 35-25 lead over St. Francis of Mountain View in the Division II boys basketball final at Rabobank Arena on Friday.

Lincoln’s Norman Powell has 13 points to lead all scorers. Teammate Victor Dean has 12 points.

Tyler Johnson has eight points off the bench to lead St. Francis.
