Los Angeles Preps: Navy

The Notre Dame High School football team will be playing a game in Dublin, Ireland in 2012.

Notre Dame will be part of the Global Ireland Football Tournament, a projected 10-team high school football event that will run in conjunction with the University of Notre Dame vs. Navy game in September of 2012 at Aviva Stadium in Ireland.

Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks will play Hamilton High School from Chandler, Ariz., in one of the five games tournament organizers are scheduling. Notre Dame and Hamilton are the only two high school teams that have confirmed attending the tournament.

Notre Dame football coach Kevin Rooney said this will be the longest road trip in school history. The team once played a game in Arlington, Texas. That was the farthest East the football team has traveled for a game.

The team is auctioning off Magic Johnson's luxury suite for a Lakers game at Staples Center to raise money for the trip. The game is between the Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves on March 18. The auction winner will also receive an autographed Magic Johnson jersey.

“One of the things that is good about it is it’s not until 2012,” Rooney said. “We have some time to do some fund raising before then.”

The game between Notre Dame and Hamilton is believed to be the first high school football game to be played overseas in Europe. The remaining eight teams are expected to be announced this week.

“It will be a great educational experience and we get to play a game in front of a European and Irish audience,” Rooney said. “I think the whole thing will be fun and a great experience for everybody.”

Here are the next batch of football recruits and where they are likely to sign on Wednesday. Thousand Oaks has quite a list of football players headed to college. Alex Singleton and Rickey Minyard might not be going to big schools, but they are two of five football players from Thousand Oaks continuing their careers in college. Quarterback Avondre Bollar is headed to San Diego State, but not to play football. He landed a baseball scholarship there and will join Oaks Christian quarterback Trevor Gretzky on the baseball team.
