Inland Empire: REV girls volleyball tries for repeat business vs. Corona del Mar

The second-seeded Redlands East Valley girls' volleyball team is scheduled to host third-seeded Corona del Mar in a Division 1A semifinal Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats can certainly claim they’ve had Corona del Mar’s number lately, beating the Sea Kings in the section finals and the state playoffs each of the last two seasons.

Fourth-seeded Chino Hills advanced to the semifinals in Division 2AA. The Huskies will host Westlake Village Oaks Christian, which upset top-seeded La Canada in a five-game quarterfinal Saturday.

Palm Springs upset second-seeded La Verne Bonita in a Division 2A quarterfinal Saturday, earning a trip to the semifinals at third-seeded Downey.

Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World reached the semifinals in Division 3A. The fourth-seeded Fighting Scots will travel to top-seeded Brentwood.

Top-seeded Hemet and second-seeded Upland Christian Academy also play in separate semifinals in Division 4A.

Boys Water Polo

After outscoring its opponents, 37-12, in the first two rounds of Division 2, top-seeded Murrieta Valley has advanced to play fourth-seeded Long Beach Wilson in a semifinal Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine.

Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos knocked off fourth-seeded Cerritos, 11-8, in Saturday’s quarterfinals in Division 4, advancing to play top-seeded Semi Valley Royal at 3:30 p.m. at the Woollett center.

Second-seeded Beaumont is also still alive in Division 6. The Cougars are scheduled to play second-seeded Malibu on Wednesday at Cal Lutheran at 4 p.m.

Girls Tennis

Quarterfinals in all five divisions are scheduled for Tuesday. Check the Southern Section website for schedules.

Inland Empire: Palm Desert golfers shine at section finals

Cha Cha Willhoite and Yan Yue Hill of Palm Desert finished in the top six Monday at the Southern Section individual girls’ golf championships at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc.

Playing in gusty conditions, Willhoite and Hill each shot seven-over par 79s to finish in a four-way tie for third. Kaitlin Park of Irvine Beckman then won a one-hole playoff to officially take third place.

Anaheim Canyon sophomore Elisabeth Bernabe finished first with a 75.

Other Inland Empire golfers advancing to the WSCGA Southern California Championship on Wednesday at The Golf Club at Rancho California in Murietta were Desert Valley League champion Raychelle Santos of La Quinta, who shot an 80, Dayna Doidge of Riverside Poly (81), Carolane Gariepy of Vista Murrieta (81) and Bow-Kay Salotti of Palm Desert.

Girls' Volleyball

Redlands East Valley will begin its quest for a fourth consecutive Southern Section title Tuesday against visiting Alta Loma. The Wildcats, seeded second in Division 1A, will try to become the seventh team to accomplish that feat.

Hemet, the top-seeded team in Division 4A, plays the winner of Monday’s wild-card match between Pomona Ganesha and Anza Hamilton. Riverside Christian, the top-seeded team in Division 5A has a first-round bye.

Chino Hills is seeded fourth in Division 2A and opens play Tuesday against Oak Park. Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World is seeded fourth in Division 3A and opens against Ontario Christian.

Boys' Water Polo

Murrieta Valley is top-seeded team in Division 2. The Nighthawks begin postseason play Thursday against visiting Bell Gardens. Riverside Poly is also on Murrieta Valley’s side of the bracket, setting up a potential second-round match Saturday.

Among the victories by the Nighthawks this season is a 12-10 win over Laguna Beach, the top-seeded team in Division 3, and 18-10 over La Verne Damien, seeded second in Division 3.

Girls' Tennis

The Redlands girls’ tennis team, led by four-time Citrus Belt League champion April Scatliffe, is seeded fourth in Division 3. The Terriers open postseason play Thursday against the winner of Tuesday’s wild-card match between Alhambra and Riverside North.

Temecula Linfield Christian is seeded No. 1 in Division 5, and Riverside Arlington is No. 2.
