There were some surprises and streak snappers in the high school basketball world on Wednesday night.
Perhaps the biggest stunner of the night was Harvard-Westlake’s 81-62 win over Alemany in the Mission League finale.
Harvard-Westlake snapped Alemany’s nine-game winning streak. Alemany still won the Mission League championship with a 10-2 record.
Harvard-Westlake finishes in a tie with Crespi for third place in the Mission League with 7-5 records.
Loyola is the second-place team in the Mission League at 9-3.
And all of a sudden, Chaminade is the hottest team in the Mission League with a three-game winning streak including 64-54 over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Wednesday night.
Oak Park beat Oaks Christian for the second time this season and won the Tri-Valley League championship.
Junior Ron Lee Jr. had a big night for Oak Park, scoring 20 points in his team’s 63-52 win over Oaks Christian.
The Panorama boys basketball team won the first Valley Mission League championship for the school in any sport. Panorama is undefeated in the Valley Mission League at 11-0. The Pythons can win the Valley Mission League championship outright against Kennedy on Friday.
Manuel Meza recorded a triple double for Panorama with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals in a 61-51 win over Sylmar.
The Grant boys basketball team beat Arleta, 69-31, to win the East Valley League championship and extend its league winning streak to 26 games.
But it wasn’t all good news for Grant.
Gor Plavchyan, Grant’s 6-feet-7 forward who is averaging 19 points per game, sprained his ankle in the first quarter and did not return to the game.
