POMONA -- Look no further than the Chino football team to gauge the difference a year can make.
The Cowboys cruised to a 41-14 win against Garey on Friday night, improving to 6-0 this season. That's six more wins than they had all of last year.
"Everybody doubted us," senior Promise Amadi said. "We were 0-10 last year, but we're going 14-0. That's all we're doing -- we're trying to prove people wrong."
Amadi was some playmaker Friday, scoring on four of his six touches. He had touchdown receptions of 34 and 20 yards, scoring runs of five and three yards and also intercepted a pass.
"We know we're a good team," Amadi said. "Any time we get adversity, we come back and do better."
Garey (4-3) needed just three plays to take the ball 80 yards for a quick 6-0 lead. But Chino's O'Shay Aubert answered Sothia Bun's one-yard score with a 71-yard scoring run three plays later.
"I thought we were on our heels, but we made some slight adjustments," Chino coach Matt McCain said. "They have continued to work hard for six straight weeks now."
Chino, ranked No. 6 in the Central Division heading into Friday's game, scored 41 unanswered points while the defense managed to keep standout receiver Dominique Williams in check. Bun did have two touchdowns and 169 yards rushing on 27 carries, but quarterback Thomas Michel threw three backbreaking interceptions.
"It's a big win for Chino because it gets us going into the Colony week with some momentum," McCain said. "This league has been hard to gauge and we're getting a feel for it, but it's still up in the air."
