The Galaxy will head to Seattle for its U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal.

The Sounders on Wednesday night beat longtime rival Portland Timbers on penalties after a 1-1 draw in their tournament opener and will be home for next Wednesday's match at Starfire Sports Complex in suburban Tukwila.

The Galaxy beat AC St. Louis, 2-0, Tuesday night in its third-round match at Home Depot Center. MLS clubs enter the competition in the third round.

Chivas USA also will be on the road for the quarterfinals, playing Tuesday against the Houston Dynamo at Robertson Stadium. Chivas beat the Austin Aztex, 1-0, Tuesday night at Cal State Fullerton.

Portland, AC St. Louis and Austin play in the USSF D2 Pro League, the second tier of American men's soccer. The Timbers will join MLS next season.

Six of the eight MLS clubs to qualify for the Open Cup advanced to the quarterfinals, along with two teams -- Harrisburg City Islanders and Charleston Battery -- from the third-tier USL Second Division.
