L.A. BLUES: Antigua strikes again

July, 30, 2011

The L.A. Blues certainly appear the superior of the USL Pro's two surviving International Division clubs, but evidence doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Consider Antigua Barracuda's 2-1 victory Friday evening at Norco College.

The islanders' victory, their first in eight games, was their second over the Blues in Southern California, and they could be 4-0 in L.A. against L.A. by the middle of next week. Rematches are set Sunday evening at Norco and Tuesday evening at Palisades High School in Pacific Palisades.

George Dublin gave Antigua (8-12-1) a second-minute lead, and Ranja Christian netted the winner in the 66th. Chukwudi Chijindu, with his fourth goal of the season, pulled the Blues (7-5-6) even in the 21st.

The Blues were without Antiguan forward Peter Byers, who started the season with Barracuda. He was suspended after picking up a red card in last week's draw at Harrisburg.

L.A. lost ground in the International Division and sit seven points behind Rochester (10-6-4) and six behind Harrisburg (9-5-6). The Blues have two games in hand against each. Antigua remains in the American Division basement.
