Best Bets Oct. 10/11: What to watch

MONDAY, OCT. 10

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

MLS RESERVE LEAGUE

Chivas USA at Galaxy

Home Depot Center University Field 1 (Carson), 11 a.m.

The Galaxy might be the best team in Major League Soccer, but nobody's record is as bad as theirs (1-5-2, with a minus-8 goal difference) in the Reserve League. SuperClasico week begins with a low-key meeting on L.A.'s training field.

COLLEGE MEN

Whittier at Pomona-Pitzer

Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field (Claremont), 4 p.m.

The Sagehens won six straight SCIAC games -- five by shutout -- between losses to first-place Redlands, the second Saturday. This one's a makeup of Wednesday's rain-postponed match.

Also

Berry at Chapman (Orange), 7 p.m.

Caltech at Soka (Aliso Viejo), 7 p.m.

College women

Pomona-Pitzer at Whittier, 7 p.m.

TUESDAY, OCT. 11

  • TELEVISION

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY

Ecuador at United States

ESPN2 and Univision (KMEX/Channel 34), 4 p.m.

Clint Dempsey scored two nice goals in the Amercans' victory Saturday over Honduras, and both of them should have counted. Nice debut by German-born Danny Williams, too. Can Jurgen Klinsmann make it two in a row in a Red Bull Arena friendly?

2012 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING

Portugal at Denmark

ESPN Deportes, 4 p.m.

The Group H title is on the line in Copenhagen, with the winner -- or Portugal if it's a tie -- advancing to next year's finals, and perhaps the loser, too, since one of nine runners-up gets to skip the playoff phase. But if Denmark wins big and Norway crushes Cyprus, Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. could be staying home.

Also

Belgium at Germany, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, 9:55 a.m.

Scotland at Spain, ESPN Deportes, noon

Bosnia & Herzegovina at France, ESPN Deportes, 2 p.m.

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY

Brazil at Mexico

ESPN2 and Univision (KMEX/Channel 34), 6:30 p.m.

A top-class friendly at Estadio Azteca, with rising Mexico's first-choice group taking on everybody's second-favorite national team, featuring big names past (Ronaldinho) and present (Neymar).

2014 World Cup qualifying

Nicaragua at Panama, GolTV, 5 p.m.

College men

Wake Forest at College of Charleston, Fox Soccer Channel, 4 p.m. and midnight

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

COLLEGE MEN

Fresno Pacific at Biola

Biola Soccer Field/Track (La Mirada), 7 p.m.

FPU is off to a 3-0-0 start in the Golden State Athletic Conference, sharing the early lead with Irvine's Concordia. Biola is just one game back, and a victory puts the Eagles squarely into the title race.

Also

San Diego Christian at Concordia (Irvine), 1 p.m.

Westmont at Azusa Pacific (Azusa), 3 p.m.

The Master's vs. Hope International at Cal State Fullerton, 3 p.m.
