Morgan's late strikes save U.S. women
The forward from Diamond Bar tallied in the 88th minute and again in stoppage as the U.S. women's national team, preparing for the London Olympics, rallied to beat New Zealand, 2-1, Saturday in near-freezing temperatures in Frisco, Texas.
Morgan, 22, has 16 goals in 32 international games and six in five matches this year.
Morgan headed home a Megan Rapinoe cross to pull the U.S. even -- Kiwis goalkeeper Jenny Bindon appeared to knocked it away, but she was in the net at the time -- and then nodded in the winner after Abby Wambach got her head to a Rachel Buehler cross.
New Zealand scored in the 49th minute, with Hannah Wilkinson taking advantage of a poor pass by outside back Kelley O'Hara, a converted forward. Wambach missed a penalty kick in the ninth minute, firing off the post.
The U.S. next plays in the annual Algarve Cup in Portugal, starting Feb. 29.
