March 7/8: What to watch, where to go

3/7/2012

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7

  • TELEVISION

ITALIAN SERIE A

Juventus at Bologna

Fox Soccer Plus, 9:25 a.m.

Juve's draw Saturday with Chievo Verona was a huge stumble. The Old Lady remains unbeaten, but 13 wins in 25 games isn't good enough, and they've fallen three points behind AC Milan with one game in hand. That game is this one, a must-win encounter.

English F.A. Cup

Stevenage at Tottenham, Fox Soccer Plus, 2 p.m.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) at Barcelona (Spain)

Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, 11:30 a.m.

The defending champs need only protect a 3-1 advantage following the first leg in Germany to advance to the quarterfinals of Europe's top club competition. Replays: Fox Soccer Plus, 5 p.m.; Fox Deportes, 7 p.m.

Also

Lyon (France) at APOEL (Cyprus), Fox Soccer Plus, 11:30 a.m.; Fox Soccer Channel, 2 p.m.; Fox Deportes, 2 and 9 p.m.

COPA LIBERTADORES

Fluminense (Brazil) at Boca Juniors (Argentina)

Fox Deportes, 4 p.m.

The Fluzão beat one Argentine side in its Group 4 opener in South America's club championship. Another, over the most storied of Argentine clubs, would have the Brazilians sprinting toward the knockout stage.

Also

Universidad de Chile (Chile) at Peñarol (Uruguay), Fox Deportes, 9 a.m.

Nacional (Paraguay) at Corinthians (Brazil), Fox Deportes, 11 p.m.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Galaxy (U.S.) at Toronto FC (Canada)

Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura (KFTR/Channel 46), 5 p.m.

The Galaxy sits just 180 minutes from region's final four, and getting there could depend on how they do in front of about 45,000 screaming Canadians in a quarterfinal first leg. The returns of Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan might be the advantage they need.

Also

Santos Laguna (Mexico) at Seattle Sounders (U.S.), Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura (KFTR/Channel 46), 7 p.m.

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

THURSDAY, MARCH 8

  • TELEVISION

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE

Udinese (Italy) at AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands)

GolTV, noon

Jozy Altidore
's club form has bounced from sensational to careless at AZ this season, but he could be the pivotal figure as the Dutchmen look to open Europe's No. 2 club competition's round of 16 with a victory.

Also

Besiktas (Turkey) at Atletico Madrid (Spain), GolTV, 10 a.m.

Athletic Bilbao (Spain) at Manchester United (England), GolTV, 2 p.m.

COPA LIBERTADORES

Atletico Nacional (Colombia) at Godoy Cruz (Argentina)

Fox Deportes, 4:30 p.m.

Colombia's top team has routed its first two Group 8 foes in South America's club championship, and success in Mendoza will all but ensure expected passage to the knockout phase.

Also

Internacional (Brazil) at Santos (Brazil), Fox Deportes, 10 a.m.

Velez Sarsfield (Argentina) at Deportivo Quito (Ecuador), Fox Deportes, 12:30 p.m.

Emelec (Ecuador) at Flamengo (Brazil), Fox Deportes, 2:30 p.m.

Bolivar (Bolivia) at Junior (Colombia), Fox Deportes, 7 p.m.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Pumas UNAM (Mexico) at Isidro Metapan (El Salvador)

Galavision, 5 p.m.

The Cats' meandering form in the Mexican Primera Division should be of no consequence here -- they're heavy favorites to win this quarterfinal couplet and advance to an all-Mexico semifinal. A victory in Central America would make next week's second leg academic.

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS
