Newport Beach's Maddie Bauer and Corona's Amber Munerlyn are part of the U.S. team headed to Guatemala for next month's CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship, the qualifier for the age-group World Cup next fall in Azerbaijan.
Bauer is a star at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana and with Slammers, the Newport Beach-based club giant. Munerlyn, who has made 13 appearances for the U.S. -- second-most on the 20-player roster -- plays at Santiago High School in Corona and with San Juan Capistrano's So Cal Blues.
The U.S., guided by former FC Gold Pride coach Albertin Montoya, faces the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago and Mexico in group play at the May 2-12 event in Guatemala City. Winners in the May 10 semifinals and May 12 third-place game advance to the Sept. 22-Oct. 13 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
