April 15/16: What to watch, where to go

4/15/2012

SUNDAY, APRIL 15

  • TELEVISION

MEXICAN PRIMERA DIVISION

Cruz Azul at Toluca

Univision (KMEX/Channel 34), 9:55 a.m.

Disappointing campaigns for the Cementeros (4-4-6) and Diablos Rojos (5-6-3), who both sit three points off the top eight with three weeks left to choose playoff teams. Advantage: Cruz Azul. Toluca has lost three in a row and won just once in seven games.

Liga de Ascenso

Cruz Azul Hidalgo at Toros Neza, Azteca America (KAZA/Channel 54), 11:55 a.m.

Brazilian Campeonato Paulista

Corinthians at Ponte Preta, GolTV, noon and midnight

Argentine Primera Division

Boca Juniors at Tigre, GolTV, 4 and 9 p.m.

ENGLISH F.A. CUP

Tottenham vs. Chelsea

Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, 10 a.m.

The London rivals, separated by two points in fourth and sixth place in the Premier League standings, face off at Wembley in the semifinals. Tottenham hasn't won soccer's oldest trophy in 21 years; the Blues have captured three of the last five titles. The victor takes on Liverpool in the final.

English Premier League

Aston Villa at Manchester United, Fox Soccer Channel, 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Fox Deportes, 8 a.m.

English Championship

Brighton & Hove Albion at West Ham United, Fox Soccer Plus, 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

SPANISH LA LIGA

Atletico Madrid at Rayo Vallecano

ESPN Deportes, 10 a.m.

The Madrid rivals are separated by two points (and four spots), not far outside the Europa League zone, but with time running out. Replay: 1 a.m.

Also

Mallorca at Athletic Bilbao, GolTV, 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Dutch Eredivisie

AZ Alkmaar at PSV Eindhoven, ESPN Deportes, 6 a.m.

French Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain at Auxerre, Fox Soccer Plus, 11:55 a.m.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

Houston Dynamo at Chicago Fire

Galavision, 4 p.m.

Both sides are coming off bye weeks -- the Dynamo are coming off two -- and hope they've found their attacks (each has two goals in three games) in the interim. Houston must overcome the loss of three starting midfielders, two to suspension.

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

NATIONAL PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE

FC Hasental at Fullerton Rangers

Santa Ana Stadium, 5 p.m.

The Rangers' inaugural game was a success, a 3-0 win in Phoenix. Hasental, from Thousand Oaks, didn't fare so well -- 4-0 losers to the San Diego Flash. Both look for points in Fullerton's home opener.

CLASICO DE LEYENDAS

United States vs. Mexico

Home Depot Center (Carson), 6 p.m.

The legends of the past generation renew the region's greatest rivalry. A few of those involved: Cobi Jones, Jorge Campos, Alexi Lalas, Ramon Ramirez, Eric Wynalda, Claudio Suarez, Brian McBride, Alberto Garcia Aspe, Paul Caligiuri, Jared Borgetti, Thomas Dooley, Luis Hernandez.

MONDAY, APRIL 16

  • TELEVISION

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Wigan Athletic at Arsenal

Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, noon

Wigan's stunning win Monday over Manchester United, on Shaun Maloney's second-half goal, boosted the Latics' survival chances. It'd take another shocker to topple third-place Arsenal at the Emirates. Replay: FSC, 5 p.m.

Spanish La Liga

Sevilla at Getafe, GolTV, noon and midnight

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

MLS RESERVE LEAGUE

Seattle Sounders at Galaxy

Home Depot Center University Field 1 (Carson), 11 a.m.

The Galaxy's reserves were beaten by Chivas USA in their opener, giving up four second-half goals. Seattle romped to the West Division title last year but is off to a 0-1-1 start.
