  • TELEVISION

SPANISH LA LIGA
Villarreal at Sporting Gijon
GolTV, 11 a.m.

The Yellow Submarine has finished in the top five five times in the last eight years -- they were runners-up to Real Madrid in 2008 -- and no worse than eighth the other three years. And now they could be relegated? Sure thing. (New Jersey-born Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi's knee injury has hurt badly.) The drop zone border separates Villarreal from Sporting, which can catch up with a victory. If the Sub wins, survival is nearly certain.
Italian Serie A
AS Roma at Chievo Verona, Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, 9 a.m.
Palermo at Napoli, Fox Deportes, 11:30 a.m.; Fox Soccer Channel, 2 and 8 p.m.

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Fulham at Liverpool
ESPN2, 11:30 a.m.
Clint Dempsey
and the Cottagers were crushed by Everton on the weekend. Now they head less than a mile away, just across Stanley Park, to face Liverpool's other giant. Replay: ESPN Deportes, 11:55 a.m.
Also
Everton at Stoke City, Fox Soccer Channel, 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Scottish Premier League
Motherwell at Hearts, Fox Soccer Plus, 11:40 a.m.

COPA LIBERTADORES
Libertad (Paraguay) at Cruz Azul (Mexico)
Fox Deportes, 7:30 p.m.
Mexico's lone survivor into the knockout stage opens its round-of-16 series at Estadio Azul, where it twice netted four goals in three group-stage matches. Libertad won two of its three road games en route to top spot in the Group 5.
Also
Velez Sarsfield (Argentina) at Atletico Nacional (Colombia), Fox Deportes, 5 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 2

  • TELEVISION

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Newcastle United at Chelsea
Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Deportes, 11:30 a.m.

One of the biggest showdowns of the season, with European spots possibly on the line. Newcastle is fifth, good for a Europa League berth, and is even on points with fourth-place Tottenham, which is in Champions League territory. Chelsea is sixth, which gets you nowhere -- but the Blues are just a point behind Newcastle. Replay: FSC, 5 p.m.
Also
Tottenham at Bolton, Fox Soccer Plus, 11:55 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Scottish Premier League
Dundee United at Rangers, Fox Soccer Plus, 2 p.m. and 1 a.m.

SPANISH LA LIGA
Real Madrid at Athletic Bilbao
GolTV, 1 p.m.
A victory gives Real the Spanish title with two games to go. This is more vital for the Basques, who dropped a point back in the fight for Europa League spots next season. They've already reached the Europa title game this year. Replay: midnight.
Also
Espanyol at Granada, ESPN Deportes, 6 a.m.
Real Sociedad at Atletico Madrid, ESPN Deportes, 8:55 a.m.
Malaga at Barcelona, ESPN Deportes, 10:55 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Real Betis at Sevilla, GolTV, 11 a.m.
Italian Serie A
Lecce at Juventus, Fox Soccer Plus, 2 and 8 p.m.
Atalanta at AC Milan, Fox Soccer Plus, 4 p.m.
French Ligue 1
Saint-Etienne at Paris Saint-Germain, Fox Soccer Plus, 9 p.m.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER
Galaxy at Seattle Sounders
KDOC/Channel 56, 7 p.m.
This might regularly be the best matchup in Major League Soccer, but because it's a midweek game between weekend games, it's possible both sides will be missing first-choice players. Either way, it's one of the essential battles on the schedule. Replay: KWHY/Channel 22, 8 p.m.
Also
Colorado Rapids at New England Revolution, MLS Direct Kick, 5 p.m.
D.C. United at San Jose Earthquakes, MLS Direct Kick, 7:30 p.m.

MEXICAN PRIMERA DIVISION
Monterrey at Club Tijuana
Azteca America (KAZA/Channel 54), 8:30 p.m.
The Xolos make their first-division playoff debut, taking on Monterrey -- seeking its third title in seven campaigns -- before a sellout crowd at Estadio Caliente a few miles south of the border. The quarterfinal second leg is Saturday in Monterrey.
Also
America at Pachuca, KFTR (Telefutura/Channel 46), 6:25 p.m.
Liga de Ascenso
Leon at Lobos BUAP, GolTV, 3:15 p.m.
Copa Libertadores
Union Espaņola (Chile) at Boca Juniors (Argentina), Fox Deportes, 3:30 and 11 p.m.
Corinthians (Argentina) at Emelec (Ecuador), Fox Deportes, 6 p.m.
