May 30/31: What to watch, where to go

5/30/2012

WEDNESDAY, MAY 30

  • TELEVISION

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY

Brazil at United States

ESPN2, 4:30 p.m./Telefutura (KFTR/Channel 46), 5 p.m.

Landon Donovan's hat trick disposed of Scotland, but the second of three friendlies leading to the U.S.'s World Cup qualifying openers is going to be much, much tougher, of course. Brazil is 15-1-0 against the Yanks, the lone U.S. win back in 1998 at the Coliseum, thanks to Kasey Keller and Preki.

Also

Spain vs. South Korea, ESPN Deportes, 10:50 a.m.; ESPN2, 10:55 a.m.

Iceland at Sweden, ESPN Deportes, 1 p.m.

Beach Soccer Il Mundialito de Clubes

Vasco da Gama (Brazil) vs. Boca Juniors (Argentina), Fox Deportes, 11 a.m.

Flamengo (Brazil) vs. Seattle Sounders (U.S.), Fox Deportes, 1 p.m.

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

USL W-LEAGUE

L.A. Strikers at Pali Blues

Palisades High School (Pacific Palisades), 7 p.m.

Pali is wrapping up its schedule against the local foes this week, with home games against Pasadena's Strikers and, on Saturday, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat. Sweep them again, and only Seattle and the Colorado clubs stand between the Blues and the Western title.

THURSDAY, MAY 31

  • TELEVISION

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY

Mexico vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina

Univision (KMEX/Channel 34), 6 p.m.

Game two of Mexico's three-game set to prepare for its World Cup opener takes El Tri to Chicago. Aldo de Nigris scored both goals in Sunday's 2-0 win over Wales in New Jersey. Brazil awaits in Arlington, Texas, next Sunday.
