THE WOMEN'S GAME: Lake Forest's Amy Rodriguez is having an MVP kind of season for the Philadelphia Independence, who are running second to FC Gold Pride (with probable repeat MVP Marta) in Women's Professional Soccer. She leads the expansion Independence against the Boston Breakers, the team she played for (and struggled with) last year.

Only one game in town this week, but it's a big one, even if it counts for nothing. Real Madrid, one of the globe's true giants, takes on our Galaxy at the Rose Bowl. The teams met once before, in 2005 at Home Depot Center, with the Spaniards (including Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham) winning, 2-0, on goals by Michael Owen and Robert Soldado.
