Honduras and El Salvador will play in a “Copa Independencia” friendly Sept. 4 at the Coliseum, and the 7:30 p.m. game will mark Juan de Dios Castillo's debut as Honduras coach.
The Mexican coach, who has extensive experience in Honduras -- he's won league championships with Real España and Olimpia -- was hired this week to replace Reinaldo Rueda, who guided the Catrachos at the World Cup in South Africa.
Rueda resigned last month to become Ecuador's head coach. Castillo's contract runs through January.
Alan Rovira (Simi Valley HS), an 18-year-old midfielder who plays in the Galaxy's youth academy, has been called up by El Salvador interim coach Jose Luis Rugamas for the match. Rugamas took charge when Mexican coach Carlos de los Cobos became the Chicago Fire's coach at the end of 2009. His contract is up in October.
