Cal State L.A. responded to its rise to to the top spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's men's NCAA Division II rankings with nearly perfect soccer.

The Golden Eagles (5-0-0) shut out two more foes -- San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay -- to extend their no-goals-allowed streak to five games, 450 minutes, and retain their hold on No. 1.

Taylor Rivas (Lancaster/Lancaster HS), a UC Santa Barbara transfer who led Taft College's 2007 state JC title-winning team's backlline, anchored Cal State L.A.'s defense and scored goals in both games to win California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week honors.

Defender Brennen Broderson assisted Rivas' goal in the 1-0 triumph over San Francisco State and scored the opener from the penalty spot in the 3-0 rout of Monterey Bay.

Cal State L.A.'s women weren't able to maintain their perfect mark, and they fell from No. 7 to out of the rankings because of it.

Ann Marie Tangorra (Arcadia/Arcadia HS) scored her fifth goal of the season after just 6 minutes Friday, but San Francisco State rallied with two second-half goals for a 2-1 win. The Golden Eagles (4-1-0) crushed Cal State Monterey Bay, 4-0, on Sunday as Liz Franco scored a hat trick and assisted Tangorra's sixth goal.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cal State Dominguez Hills' women dropped from ninth to out of the rankings after the 3-0 loss at UC San Diego two weekends ago, but junior forward Jessica Murphy (Torrance/West HS) put the Toros back on track in comeback victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.

Murphy scored the tying goal against Monterey Bay and netted both goals against SFSU -- a repeat of her performance in last year's meeting -- as Dominguez Hills improved to 5-1-0 (3-1-0 in the CCAA).

Taylor Canatsey (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS) assisted a Murphy goal in each game and scored the winner against Monterey Bay.

NOTES: Jordan Rover (Los Alamitos/Los Alamitos HS) scored twice to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills' unbeaten men in a 5-0 rout of Cal State Monterey Bay, but the Toros settled for a 2-2 draw with San Francisco State -- both goals by Greg Piechota -- in a game marred by 10 yellow cards and two reds, one for each side. ... Cal State San Bernardino's women's loss to Chico State following a 5-0-0 start didn't hurt much at the polls. The Coyotes dropped from 14th to 13th. ... Tyler Reinhart assisted as Luis Gonzalez (Long Beach/Millikan HS) sccored his fifth goal of the season, then scored nearly 3 minutes into overtime as Cal Poly Pomona's men toppled previously unbeaten Cal State Stanislaus, 2-1. ... The Broncos' women finally surrendered a goal -- after 475 minutes and five shutouts -- and suffered their first loss at Cal State Stanislaus. They started the week by beating Chico State in overtime on a goal by Justine Barclay (Rancho Cucamonga/Rancho Cucamonga HS). ... Cal State San Bernardino's men halted beat Chico State, 2-1, as Albert Cabrera (Ontario/Chaffey HS) scored goals 1 minute, 41 seconds apart in the first half.
