L.A.'s newest pro team bulked up its roster to four players Tuesday, completing the expected signing of Welshman Gareth Evans. The 23-year-old defender, an All-USL2 selection last season for Real Maryland, is currently on loan to English minor-league club Chester FC.
Evans captained Real Maryland last season and was a finalist for the USL Second Division's Defender of the Year award. He previously has played for Newi Cefn Druids and Wrexham FC in Wales and former USL1 club Austin Aztex.
"Gareth is a strong defender with vast USL experience ..." Blues coach Charlie Naimo, whose team will debut in the United Soccer Leagues' new USL Pro division next spring, said in a statement. "We feel his knowledge of the competition, along with his abilities, gives us a great head start on building a strong and versatile backline."
